David's family greeted his 5th birthday with emergency open-heart surgery. They endured it once again when he was 8, only it was worse  because he suffered cardiac arrest on the operating table.

Surgery didn’t correct the problem, it just stalled the inevitable.

David's family lived on the edge of life and death. The fragility and impermanence of life was well known to them all in 2017 when they learned that doctors anticipated his 5th open-heart surgery. This time, David and his wife prepared for the worst.

But something amazing and beautiful intervened. Something new. Less risky. Worth a try.

Doctors took the "Melody Valve," and installed it in David’s heart with a single stitch. And it changed everything.
